This online tutorial explains the Limited Commercial Wildlife Management uses, limitations, and certificate recertification requirements and covers the following:

  • The history of disease associated with commensal rodents—those found living in close associations with humans, such as the Norway rat, the roof rat, and the house mouse—including the rodent-flea-human cycle responsible for bubonic plague outbreaks in the middle.
  • Diseases carried and spread by rodents, including rat bite fever, Leptospirosis, Murine Typhus, Hantavirus, Lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCM), Salmonella, and Tularemia.
  • Additional dangers associated with these rodents, such as food contamination, property damage, and fire risks.
  • Important facts about mice and rats in general that help the trapper diagnose the rodent problem and its extent.
  • Tactics for nonchemical control of commensal rodents including rodent-proofing, sanitation, use of predators, and trapping.
  • Important techniques trappers must use to safely clean-up the mess left behind by commensal rodents.
  • The six-point plan for controlling rodents following a major storm that may cause rodents to move into human inhabited areas.
